Glitnir has a promising business plan and a lot of potential. It has a good working environment and together we respond quickly and deliver a high quality service to clients.

On an average day my work would involve discussing the details of a deal with a client, perhaps a lawyer or accountant too. I might also discuss a potential transaction with a leading food company. Glitnir specialises in three niche areas - seafood/food, sustainable energy and offshore service vessels which makes it stand apart from its competitors, and I believe it will steadily build a leading status in those sectors.

The socially oriented corporate culture of the bank, its friendly environment and career perspectives were factors in my decision to join. The team here is young, active and determined, whilst the management is very accessible and friendly, always ready to communicate and help out with problems.

Most mornings we pick out news and trading ideas for the day. We research companies, maintain the database and communicate with companies and clients. Typically we would have lunch with our colleagues and perhaps a team meeting. We react quickly to customers' requests, taking balanced decisions with attention to the details. This, plus a deep understanding of the market and of our customers' needs, is what fast, smart and thorough (our company values) mean to me.

What makes working for Glitnir fun is that decisions are made fast. There is no analysis paralysis!

A good example would be the marathon this year, where over 600 people from the bank were running. I have worked for other companies where I have done a lot of charity and you literally had to beg and plead people to show up. But here people just take it, own it and do it.

I liked the challenge of a new bank. Although the bank's history goes back a long way, it seems like a new bank and it is an ambitious, high growth bank as well. I thought it would be good to work where there is a lot happening, somewhere I could use my experience in integration challenges.

The work is much as I expected. People are seen as people within Glitnir and it doesn't really matter who you are, everybody's opinion is highly valued. You can influence and you are supposed to influence your environment and that is very positive.

When one of the biggest banks in Iceland offers you an exciting job in a new country where you can move your family, it's hard to say no!

It's fun working at Glitnir and at the same time it can be demanding, but basically very rewarding. In my role I travel a lot, so no two days are the same and in my opinion that's a very good thing. As the bank grows my aim is to grow with it.
