Larus Welding: Person of the Year 2008
Lárus Welding, CEO of GlitnirIntrafish, the largest seafood newspaper in the world, has just announced that its readers have voted Lárus Welding "Person of the Year 2008". It is extremely pleasing for Glitnir and its seafood related activities that Lárus Welding, CEO of Glitnir, has received this recognition from the industry. It was also a pleasure to see that three of the other nominees were Glitnir's clients; Samuel Dyer of Copeinca, Don Giles of Icicle and Gunnar Domstein of Norway Pelagic. All three companies transformed their business last year with Glitnir providing the financial advisory and solutions.
In their reasoning for the nomination of Lárus Welding, Intrafish points at the fact that Glitnir has a leading a team of progressive investment bankers committed to funding the consolidation of the seafood industry and growth and development of individual seafood firms.
IntraFish editors narrowed the Person of the Year nominees down to eight, then opened up the polls to readers to make the final selection.
Glitnir has lent more than $3 billion (€1.9 billion) to the seafood industry in recent years, and expectations are that the amount will continue to increase in accordance with the pace of consolidation throughout the seafood sector.
The bank continues to expand internationally, opening offices in China, Canada, the United States and elsewhere. Its Ocean of Opportunity conferences have become must-attend events for the world's most influential seafood executives.
Intrafish furthermore states that Larus Welding sits atop Iceland's Glitnir Bank at a time when the financial institute is earning a reputation for being "the seafood industry's bank."
The magazine also states that even though there are plenty of lending institutions and private-equity firms out there playing a role in the financing of the global seafood industry, few are as ambitious as Glitnir.
Intrafish will formally announce the results at the European Seafood Proposition in Brussels tomorrow.
